Who I am
Summit Up Digital is Pete Butler, a sole trader based in East Sussex, United Kingdom. I'm the data controller for anything collected through this website — meaning I decide what's collected and what happens to it, and I'm the one responsible for it.
For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete what I hold about you: info@summitupdigital.co.uk.
What I collect
Two things, and that's genuinely all.
1. What you type into the enquiry form
Your name, business name, email address, phone number, current website address if you have one, and whatever you write in the message box. Only the name, business name and email are required — the rest is optional.
The form also records the moment the page loaded. That's an anti-spam measure: a form completed in under two and a half seconds is a bot, not a person. It isn't used for anything else and it tells me nothing about you.
2. Standard technical information
Like any website, this one is served by a host — Netlify — which keeps ordinary server logs including IP addresses. That's a normal part of serving a website securely and I don't use those logs to build any picture of individual visitors.
Why I collect it
To reply to you, quote for the work, and deliver it if you go ahead. That's the lot. The legal basis is legitimate interests — you contacted a business asking about a service, so you're expecting a reply — and, once you become a client, performance of a contract.
I don't send marketing emails, I don't add you to a newsletter, and I don't sell, rent or share your details with anyone for their own marketing. Ever.
Who else sees it
Only the tools I need to run the business. Each is a reputable provider acting on my instructions, and none of them are permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
- GoHighLevel — where enquiries land so I can keep track of them and reply. Based in the United States.
- Microsoft 365 — my email, so any correspondence with you lives there.
- FreeAgent — accounting. Clients only, for invoices and records. Never used for enquiries that don't become work.
- Netlify — hosts this website and passes form submissions through to GoHighLevel.
- Meta — only if you've allowed the advertising cookie. See below.
GoHighLevel and Meta are based outside the UK. Where information is transferred internationally it's covered by the safeguards in those providers' data processing terms.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don't become work — kept for up to 12 months in case you come back or I want to follow up, then deleted. Ask me sooner and I'll delete them straight away.
- Clients — I keep records of work and invoices for six years after our last transaction, because HMRC requires it of me.
- Obvious spam — discarded.
Cookies
This site uses as little as it can get away with. There's no analytics package, no session recording and no advertising network beyond the one below.
Things you're asked about
Meta (Facebook) Pixel. If I'm running Facebook or Instagram ads, this tells me whether they actually led to enquiries so I know whether to keep paying for them. It sets cookies in your browser and shares your activity on this site with Meta.
It does not load unless you allow it. When you first arrive you're asked. If you decline — or simply ignore the banner — nothing is loaded and your browser never contacts Facebook. You can change your mind at any time.
Things you're not asked about
A small record of your cookie choice, stored in your own browser so you aren't asked on every page. It never leaves your device.
The chat widget, if you open it, so a conversation can continue across pages. That's a way of contacting me rather than a way of tracking you, so it sits alongside the phone number and the enquiry form.
Fonts and images are served from this website rather than from Google or a content network, specifically so your visit isn't shared with anyone who doesn't need to know about it.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- Tell you what I hold about you
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete it
- Stop using it, or hand it over in a portable format
- Object to how I'm using it
Email info@summitupdigital.co.uk and I'll deal with it within a month, usually much sooner. There's no charge.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I'd rather you came to me first so I can put it right.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If it ever changes in a way that materially affects people who've already got in touch, I'll tell them directly.
